Marist Sisters College Woolwich School Sailing Ramp
25/03/08

marist-1.jpgWhen Sean Langman established the Noakes Youth programme in 2005 he aspired to create a change within the personal world of youths by providing an opportunity for them to develop themselves physically, mentally and socially. Noakes Youth understands that the youth years are an important developmental period for the growth of the individual and believe that the sport of sailing provides the perfect template to address these fundamental aspects of life.

Noakes Youth recognised similar features within the local school sailing programme at Marist Sisters College Woolwich, which offers students the opportunity to learn to sail in a fun and safe atmosphere which caters for both leisure and team based competitive sailing. In this environment, students are able to explore and enhance their health not only physically, but also mentally and socially through the strong team bonds they form with one another.

Recognising the parallels between the Noakes Youth ethos and ideals of the Marist Sisters sailing programme, Sean Langman has offered assistance to the school’s sailing programme through contributing both labour and materials towards a ramp that will connect the schools deck and pontoon. The labour will be carried out by the skilled workers from Sean’s company Noakes Boat & Shipyards which is the most renowned and esteemed marine repair company on Australia’s east coast. Furthermore the timber used in the process will be supplied by respected sailing identity John Walker and his company Belmon Timber.

Noakes Youth hopes that this donation will ensure better access to the sport within the school community. Through improving the schools facilities a larger number of students will be provided with the opportunity to partake in and benefit from the sailing experience.
