Noakes Youth Art Scholarship
15/03/08

This year twenty-four talented young artists between the ages of 14 to 25, from the Huon Valley region of Tasmania will receive an art scholarship for tuition, as well as the supply of all materials, with the help of Noakes Youth and Cotton Duck Gallery.

rowing-harbour.jpgPlaces within the scholarship scheme will be advertised in the Port Huon local newspapers and recipients will be chosen from entries of 50 words or less written by the youths themselves or their parents or guardians outlining the special interest or talents they have in the arts.

The selected students will attend an intensive six week course in acrylic painting under the capable guidance of Luke Hibel at the Cotton Duck Gallery. Luke is a fitting choice for mentor of our young budding artists, as he is well acquainted with the difficulties of being a young artist trying to get a break within the art world, becoming an exhibiting artist at the tender age of just 17.

Under the guidance of Luke, the youth artists will learn the basics of colour, light and composition theory, instilling within the students a sense of confidence that will allow them to go forward and create their own works.

The aim of the course is to enhance and extend upon the students natural talents and abilities while taking them to the next level of their artistic pursuits. The opportunity will mean that the youths will have the chance to work side by side with professional artists who can take them beyond the basics learnt within schools and teach them the skills necessary to become an exhibiting artist.

Additionally, students will be excited to learn that Sean Langman’s own gallery the River View Gallery will be showcasing the best works of the students for the year, including any creations which were made outside of the course.
