Noakes Youth Delivers to Cruising Paradise
30 Sep 2009
For Noakes Youth members Angus McKay, 19, and Andrew Woodwood, 17, it was the trip of a life time and a chance to join the league of those brave enough to stare the mighty Bass Straight in the face. Both had been selected to deliver the yacht Allira, a Hallberg-Rassy 43, from Sydney to Kermandie, on the Huon River on the behalf of owner Peter Tomasetti.

The youth crew, along with Master Class 5 skipper Alan Nebauer, were trialling a Noakes Boat and Shipyards in conjunction with Kermandie Hotel and Marina, initiative to deliver yachts from mainland Australia to the southern marina, which offers permanent and casual berthing and boat storage for a fraction of the cost of marina berthing in the major ports. For Angus and Andrew it was an opportunity to add sea miles to their experience. ‘We were looking for alternate ways to provide offshore experience to our Noakes Youth sailors and a convenient and inexpensive way to deliver boats to Kermandie Marina’, said Noakes Group managing director and Noakes Youth Founder Sean Langman. ‘Owners now have the option of casual holiday berthing or leaving their boat on the marina year round and flying down to cruise the magnificent local waters.’

Situated just 45 minutes drive south from Hobart, Tasmania nestled along the picturesque shores of the Huon River is Kermandie. Now including a state-of-the-art floating marina and the adjoining hotel, Kermandie Marina makes the perfect launch pad for those wishing to explore the magnificent waterways of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel, Huon River and Bruny Island.
